Ashtanga gets the Hollywood treatment
In this case, the Hollywood treatment isn’t so bad.
This video, from the TV Guide Network — yes, there is such a thing — might set your teeth grinding during the first minute and a half. But once it gets to the Ashtanga part — via James Butkevich’s Ashtanga Yoga LA shala on Sunset in Silver Lake — it stays pretty true to the practice.
A few things that jump out:
He talks about how you gain strenght from the inside out; that it’s a balance of inside and out.
“This is a very true method,” he says. And he points out that Ashtanga makes everything else seem pretty easy by comparison.
That’s certainly true.
The video went up about a week ago. Less than 50 views as of when I’m posting.
I could be wrong, but I think there are about three Ashtanga studios within walking distance in that part of Silver Lake, including our friend Jodi and Noah Williams (who both are on our teacher page).
