Friday asana aid: Pincha Mayurasana
July 13, 2012
Now here’s a pose with plenty of instructional video explanations.
Pincha Mayurasana. Is it No. 2 on the “most dreaded Ashtanga poses many practitioners reasonably can expect to get to” list? Maybe No. 3?
Well, in the spirit of passing on the pleasure of this one, here we go.
LA yogi — apparently “arm balance Goddess” — Kathryn Budig:
David Swenson (from his workshop in LA; this is probably Sunday, which I didn’t attend, but fun fact, this weekend was when my Ashtanga practice got serious); video by our friend Henry Gomez:
Maty Ezraty (I don’t feel like I see lots of videos of her, so a nice treat):
Finally, Rebecca Pacheco (anyone know anything about her?):

My understanding is that Rebecca is a yoga teacher in Boston and long-time author of a blog called The World According to Om Gal. I don’t know if she still writes it but I used to follow. I seem to recall some posts by her years ago where she talked about Ashtanga classes early on. I love Kathryn’s videos…they include great arm balancing tips for those in the Do It Yourself set (i.e. without regular access to a teacher). After watching some of her clips, I found myself in some poses I wasn’t expecting to be in.
