The Roots of Yoga project ‘starts in earnest’

August 10, 2012

As we noted yesterday, the Roots of Yoga project — to translate yoga source books, including some never before translated into English — made its $50,000 kickstarter campaign goal.

Today, one of the two translators, Mark Singleton, sent out the following update to those who pledged. I asked him if it would be OK to post it, and he yes. So here it is.

Hi Everyone,

The Roots of Yoga kickstarter campaign closed, fully funded, about a minute ago. We are so thrilled and grateful to you all for helping to make it happen.

So now the work starts in earnest. In the next few weeks Jim and I will be working on detailed plans for the book, and then getting on with the long tasks of collation, translation and editing. I’m very excited to be able to throw myself into the work with no distractions for the next year. We wouldn’t be doing this without you.

In a few weeks, we’ll open up rootsofyoga.com (currently redirects to kickstarter.com) where you’ll be able to follow the progress of our work. Ultimately, it will serve as a companion site to the book , with supplementary texts, essays, photos and other material. Also, if you haven’t “liked” us yet at the RootsofYoga facebook page, that is also a good way to follow what we’re up to.

We’ll be sending out more notifications soon, and getting out the rewards to you as soon as they become available. Once again, profound thanks to you for making this happen. It’s a beautiful day!

Mark

I love the plan to use the website as a companion site to the book; the unlimited storage space online plus the multimedia capabilities — videos of the texts being read in their original language, for instance, to give us that flavor — of the Internet are perfect for this job.

We will, as promised, keep you updated on this project.
