‘Guruji’ book now out in paperback

Guy Donahaye, the main force behind the ‘Guruji’ book that we all own (right?), has announced that there is now a paperback edition of the book.

He says so over at his Mind Medicine blog.

One thing I note: the cover’s a bit different. In the hardback, Eddie Stern gets a “with” before his name. The cover Donahaye has posted seems to put him and Eddie a bit more equally. The book now is by both of them.

As the above image notes, you can find out more here.

Along with Yoga Mala, this book has to be in the top 2 for Ashtangis, right? Perhaps that suggests a question: What should be in every Ashtangi’s library? David Swenson’s practice manual, I’d suspect. What else? I know there are some books by the European wing of Ashtanga that I’m much less familiar with than by the North America wing.

The Yoga Sutras go without saying, right?

How about “Health Healing and Beyond – Yoga and the Living Tradition of Krishnamacharya,” recently reissued in trade paper by the same North Point Press after being out of print for many years. http://tinyurl.com/8lxutnm

first af all: thanks for your blog!

then a question: is the book otherwise different from the earlier version?

Not that I’ve been able to determine. If you have the hard cover, I think you’re good!

      But perhaps I’ll check…

You should see how sloppy my practice is.

I heard back from Donahaye — he says no major changes, just some copy editing. He also pointed me to some more on the Korunta (our more recent post) by Krishnamacharya himself. Here the Korunta is called the “Gurandam.”

        From this link: http://ashtangayogashala.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=41&Itemid=184

“Rama Mohana made mememorize the whole of the Yoga Gurandam in the Gurkha language. Thevarious stages of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra are dealt with in that book ina very precise but extensive commentary. That is necessary becauseSutras are by definition very concise. In the Yoga Gurandam, thevarious kinds of Yoga poses and movements are described with greatclarity. Only after studying this book can one understand the innermeaning and science of the Yoga Sutra of Patanjali.”
