Did you know there was a film chronicling Saraswathi?
Not sure how this hasn’t crossed our virtual desk before, but there is a short movie — shot a year ago — chronicling the life of Saraswathi, Pattabhi Jois’ daughter and mother to Sharath.
It’s won some awards at film festivals, including here in Los Angeles. The reason it’s finally making it on our radar is it is screening at the Bel-Air Film Festival in two weeks (and thus set off a Google alert). Officially, it is part of a 2 p.m. screening on Sunday, Oct. 14 on the UCLA campus.
You can find out more about the film here (and another short about the KPJ Trust in Mysore). And here it is (I think, in its entirety):
Perhaps it also played as part of her birthday celebration earlier this year in Encinitas? Online there seems to be some confusion about whether this is the film’s premier — I don’t think that can be true since it claims to have won awards already.
Either way, the film fest gives Southern California people the chance to see it on a biggish screen.
