Kung Fu Kareem > Ashtanga Kareem

I’m sure we’ve all seen one of the  photos of Kareem Abdul Jabbar with Pattabhi Jois or with a group of other Ashtanga practitioners. I think the following one passed around Facebook last summer:

I’m not sure of the origin of that one.

Kareem is probably more famous for being one of Bikram’s early, high-profile students. (Well, he’s really most famous for playing basketball, right? Or being in Airplane? Or in Enter the Dragon?) This is from a Bikram website:

It must have been all that Bikram, instead of Ashtanga, or just the Kung Fu, that led to the scene is this video (posted last week by Grantland, so big hat tip there). Make sure you breathe, kids!

Watching this video might have been what kicked off my video bender from the weekend, so I thought I’d just get it out of my system — and into yours — and let it be done. Also, the Lakers may actually make the playoffs despite losing Kobe Bryant to injury. Enjoy:

Not to worry, we have a very substantial post coming up later today.
