Video of Sharath in Stockholm

This video from Sharath’s summer tour of Europe has been up about a week — and it seems to have slipped under the radar. Only 464 views as of now.

It’s complete with a voice-over of Sharath talking about the practice, yoga, etc. You know the themes, right (and the crowds)?

Here you go:

For whatever reason, seeing this video made me think of how great a dearth there is of videos of the senior Western teachers. There are some, but I’m not aware of any that capture a fullness of their teachings and themes. Videos from the Confluences perhaps come closest.

  1. I agree. There needs to be a high quality production which shows the full knowledge, the advanced asana practice etc of the advanced Western Teachers. There needs to be a dvd version of the book Guruji!!! I didn’t come to the practice through Guruji I came to the practice through the dvd by David Swenson, then his practice manual. It’s the Western teachers that have grown the practice of Ashtanga by the grace of their Guru. I don’t know why but this video gives me the heebie jeebies it feels cultish to me. I can’t put my finger on it but its just got a weird vibe

  2. It may be counter to the “practice” to give the teachings of the practice… The practice is the teaching… Words are merely loose tools and materials that are strung together to build a house, but the true house is not the architecture, but the cumulative living experiences hat occur in that house in aware conscious spirit.

  3. A la he Kino video from last year, were permissions granted for students to be filmed? I wouldn’t want to have my asana practice taped for commercial use if I were in that room. Would that matter to you? It’s a personal thing, I guess.
