I know Ashtangis get accused of being cultish, but you know who really is?

The CrossFit people.

Do you have any of them as friends, either for realz or in your Facebook feed? They are a breed unto their own.

They talk about handstand push-ups, toes-to-bar and push press. WODs. They are all about their personal records. There’s something called Burpees.

They dress up for competitions. They get up early.

And if you think yogis are the ones who are posting all the selfies… well, actually, I’m not sure anyone competes with yogis when it comes to selfies. But the Crossfitters do post a lot of photos of themselves.

And I think most of them are on Paleo diets.

None of this means Ashtangis aren’t cultish. You could substitute a lot of the above for, for instance, getting that next pose; a veg / juice / raw diet; lululemon; fill-in-the-blankasana. It just means we aren’t alone.

There, I got that off my chest. (We’ve been so very serious lately.)

Oh, and Robert Moses from Namarupa is officially in the Himalayans:
