Dates up for Saraswati’s teaching tour of Europe and the U.S.

They’re at the Mysore site, along with links allowing you to register for two of them:

Freiburg, Germany: April 5-10, 2015 (Register)
Budapest, Hungary: April 19-24, 2015
Louisville, Kentucky: April 27-May 2, 2015 (Register)

The Kentucky week is at Yoga East. A look there reveals a familiar name:

Laura Spaulding KPJAYI Level 2

Laura has been practicing hatha yoga for 47 years. She began practicing Ashtanga Yoga in 1995 and met Pattabhi Jois in India in 1999. She studied with him every year until he died on May 18, 2009. Mr. Jois first authorized her to teach Ashtanga in 2004, and she received Level 2 Authorization from R. Sharath Jois, Pattabhi Jois’s grandson and successor, in 2009.

Laura is assisted by Gail Minotti, Erin Cronin, Jude Vanderhoff, Joe Autry and Niki Walls. These are Mysore students who have maintained a dedicated practice for a substantial period of time, and have completed Primary series. All are graduates of our teacher training program and have studied at KPJAYI in Mysore, India.

Karen Cairns is our Mysore Ashtanga teacher in Blacksburg, Virginia. Karen completed Yoga East’s teacher training and is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with Yoga Alliance at the 500 hour level. She studied Ashtanga with Laura Spaulding since 2001 as well as being a direct student of Shri K. Pattabhi Jois for six years, from 2002-2008. Karen continues to study every year in Mysore, India, at the Shri K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute (KPJAYI) with R. Sharath Jois and was given Authorization Level 1 in April 2010.

My bold and italics.

The Mysore page now notes to check back in the future to find out when Sharath will pick up teaching in 2015, after finishing at the end of March for the current run.

  1. Thanks, Steve!!!! Laura Spaulding, my dear friend and beloved teacher, for many years has been nurturing an incredible ashtanga community there in Kentucky. Dedicated students, classes in Sanskrit, classes in philosophy, bansuri (traditional Hindustani bamboo flute), chanting etc. She frequently has taken students with her to KPJAYI. I was one in 2003. And later in 2003 Laura hosted Sharath in Louisville in what I believe was his first solo international teaching workshop. He was there for 2 weeks! It was such fun! Love to you both, Karen
